Do you know your language level in English and how to get to the next level? This special issue of Spotlight will help you to find out both. We’ve put together a fun mix of reports, stories and exercises that will keep you entertained and guide you through four levels of the CEFR, from easy (A2) to advanced (C1).

    Get started

To find out what level you are at, choose an article that you think could be your level. Read it without looking at the German translations. If you can understand the text without difficulty and get the exercises right, your language level is at least the one shown at the beginning of the article.

    Alternatively

Choose an article that seems a bit too hard for you. Use the German translations to help you. Then, try the exercises – but don’t worry if you can’t answer all the questions correctly. This will give you an idea of the level you are aiming to reach.

    More progress

On the first pages of each section, you’ll find a skills checklist as well as a list of common mistakes typically made by learners at that particular level. These will give you an idea of your own level.

    A bit of fun

As we worked on this magazine, we kept a little diary about our experiences in making this special issue. We have created four versions of this text. The first one is at level A2. Then each diary becomes a little more advanced. See how grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure change from level A2 to C1 and what a difference enrich sth.hier: etw. vertiefenenriching your English will make.

    Finally

You don’t need to be interested in language levels at all to enjoy a fascinating glimpseBlick, Eindruckglimpse at the English-speaking world – just read, enjoy and improve your English without even noticing!
